Lord Narayana is the Supreme Being, from which everything is caused. There is nothing higher. All living and non-living beings are supported and sustained by Him. Not only is all of creation present within Him, but He is also the indweller of all living beings. All other deities come from Him, and the goal of all life is to serve and worship Him.

In His transcendent form, He resides in the heavenly abode of Vaikuntha. This is where He resides on Adishesha (the celestial snake who forms His bed) and is served by Maha-Lakshmi.

This very special deity of the Lord is the same as the ancient deity of Anantha Padmanabha Swamy found in Kerala, India. Lord Vishnu is in the ananthashayanam posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the serpent, Adishesha. His hand is placed over the Shiva-lingam, Lord Brahma is coming out of His navel, and Maha-Lakshmi is at the feet of the Lord.
