Blowing Conch / Shankha, Right hand

The sound of the conch, or shankha, symbolises the sacred OM sound.

The blowing of a conch has special significance in puja rituals. It has been mentioned in the Varaha Puran that one should not open the door of temple without first blowing the shankha. The right-turned shankha is blown before the start of puja and during arati.
